PROBING TEXT SCAMS: Senator Cynthia Villar, chairperson of the Senate Subcommittee on Public Services, asks officials of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) what they have done to prevent the proliferation of text scams in the country amid reports that some unscrupulous individuals peddle the mobile numbers of private individuals to certain groups involved in telemarketing. Villar, who has filed a Resolution to determine how telecommunications firms are addressing the text scams, which defraud many consumers of mobile loads, scolded the agency for its alleged failure to stop this problem, which even the senator’s own foundation is a victim.
