COURTESY CALL: President Rodrigo R. Duterte receives in Malacañang Senator Andrey A. Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federal Assembly, on 20 February 2017. Senator Klimov, who is a member of the ruling United Russia party, is on official visit to the Philippines from 19 to 22 February 2017 upon the invitation of Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III. Both sides agreed that the Philippines and Russia are entering a “new stage” of bilateral and inter-parliamentary relations. They also recognized the need for a strategic link between ASEAN, the Asia Pacific and Russia to enhance cooperation in the areas of trade, energy, infrastructure spending, security cooperation and cultural exchange.
