STRENGTHENING THE SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM: Senator Richard Gordon, chair of the Senate Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, presides over a hearing looking into amending the current Social Security Law to make it more responsive to the basic necessities of the SSS members. “Aside from being more aggressive in getting more members, the SSS should be given the leeway to invest its funds in worthwhile endeavors so it can generate more resources so that our people will receive more than a paltry amount when they retire or when they die.
