AFP AND ITS ROLE IN CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION: Stressing the importance of the role of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in helping build resilient communities, Senator Loren Legarda, chair of the Senate Climate Change Committee, on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, called on the AFP to help the committee make recommendations to improve the armed force’s climate change adaptation and mitigation, as well as its disaster risk reduction management capacity, practice and governance. “The AFP’s disaster resilience as an institution needs to be guaranteed so it can effectively discharge its expanded roles in the face of climate impacts and increasing disaster risks,” Legarda said.
