More assertive foreign policy: Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon urges government to review its “policy of accommodation and appeasement” towards China and assert the country’s rights in the West Philippine Sea, during the Kapihan sa Senado, Thursday, June 14, 2018. Drilon said that appeasement of Chinese actions in the South China Sea did not necessarily result in better economic relations with the Asian superpower, since Vietnam, which aggressively asserted its maritime claims, received more Chinese investments and tourist arrivals than the Philippines. “To me, we should be more assertive and improve our investment climate, particularly on peace and order,” he said.
