Villar hears budget for agriculture: Sen. Cynthia Villar, chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Food, presides over the hearing of the Finance Subcommittee on the proposed P55.9 billion budget of the Department of Agriculture (DA) for 2019. During the hearing, Villar reiterated the suggestion to impose price ceiling in order to control the price of rice. Villar also informed DA Secretary Emmanuel Pinol that under the rice tariffication bill she is sponsoring in the Senate, the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund with an initial appropriation of P10 billion will be created to fund farm mechanization programs and to help increase the productivity of farmers.
