The Senate has finished all its pending urgent work
VILLAR COMMENDS THE SENATE FOR A JOB WELL DONE
109 bills passed on third reading

Senate President Manny Villar commends all the senators and their staff for their cooperation particularly in working round the clock especially in the last few weeks to finish all the pending work before it adjournment yesterday (Thursday, February 8).

During the last few weeks, sessions lasted until the wee hours of the morning so we can wipe out whatever backlog there is. I thank everyone for their cooperation. We did this to make sure that no pending urgent work will be left undone and we succeeded, says Villar.

Villar adds, Even the anti-terrorism bill, which was certified as urgent and as a priority bill, was approved by the Senate before we adjourned. So as far as we are concerned, we finished it. The ball is in the court of the Lower House now as far the proposed measure is concerned.

In fact, even during the last session day on Thursday, the Senate continued the frenzy of passing as many bills as possible. Villar even posted a record of some sorts. Since he assumed the presidency of the Upper Chamber on July 2006, he led the passage on third reading of a total of 109 bills45 national and 64 local applications.

According to Villar, We are really happy with the productivity of the Senate. I think, it is safe to say that we have passed the highest number of measures in the last decade or so. No one can dare say now that the Senate is slow. We delivered all our promises. We passed the bills that we said we will pass.

All the senators focused on the work at hand even amidst the frenzy over the upcoming elections. Most of us even postponed the declaration and filing of our candidacy until after the Senate is adjourned. This is because we are serious about finishing our work in the Senate before anything else, Villar further cites.
