SENATOR PIA LEADS "BIKE FOR TRUTH" ACROSS RP

Senator Pia S. Cayetano is bringing a new twist to the line made famous by Ariel Ureta, "Sa ikauunlad ng bayan, bisikleta ang kailangan!" which got the TV host in trouble with authorities during the seventies.

In the next two weeks, the senator will travel on bike across the country to key cities in Northern and Central Luzon, the Bicol Region, Western and Central Visayas, and Northern and Western Mindano in support of her younger brother, Taguig-Pateros Representative Alan Peter S. Cayetano who is gunning for a senate seat under the Genuine Opposition (GO).

Dubbed as "Bike for Truth," the two-week tour started yesterday morning (April 2) with Senator Pia and some of her friends visiting market places, malls, parks and communities along the highway from Tarlac to Pangasinan and La Union.

She was warmly received by local residents despite claims by some quarters that the Ilocos Region was solidly pro-administration.

The lady senator handed out campaign leaflets and stickers and urged people to make sure to write "ALAN CAYETANO" on the ballot when voting for her brother on May 14th. This is to avoid complications, she stressed, as the disqualification case against her brother's namesake (who was declared a nuisance candidate by a Comelec panel last week) is still awaiting final resolution by the poll body.

In the afternoon, the senator pedaled some 150 kilometers from San Fernando, La Union all the way to Vigan, Ilocos Sur, where she is scheduled to spend the night.

She resumes her biking tomorrow early morning (April 3) from Vigan to Laoag, Ilocos Norte, where she is expected to arrive at around lunch time.

"A vote for 'ALAN CAYETANO' will translate to a vote in favor of the campaign for good governance and the search for truth and public accountability, which my brother has valiantly fought for despite the great odds against him," said the lady senator, a professional biker and sports enthusiast.

"More than ever, our country needs a responsive Senate with independent-minded members, especially amid the deepening socio-economic and political crisis."

Aside from authoring several bills on the environment and women's health, Sen. Pia is also known for espousing these causes through various sports events like cycling ("Bike for Hope") and running ("Pinay in Action").
