LACSON VISITS MINDANAO
Seventh-day Adventists in Mindanao throw support behind platform

DAVAO CITY Re-electionist Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson has stepped up his campaign in Mindanao, visiting several areas in the south and gaining support for his platform of Health, Order, Progress and Education (HOPE).

After joining candidates of the Genuine Opposition (GO) in a grand rally in Cagayan de Oro City Wednesday night, Lacson visited several areas in Bukidnon and Davao provinces, including "Lacson Country" in the Toril district here.

One of the highlights of his "Mindanao blitz" was an hour-long pastoral conference where he assured Seventh-Day Adventist Church leaders he will look into their concerns, particularly in getting employers to respect their belief that Saturday is their rest day.

Some 10,000 members participated in the church's Mindanao Congress held at the Mountain View College in Valencia City in Bukidnon. Lacson met with pastors from the entire Mindanao region after the Congress.

"If our government could cover with legislation making the Muslim holiday Eidl Fitr a national holiday, I see no reason why the same could not be done for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church," Lacson said, drawing applause from the pastors who attended the meeting.

He also explained his strong stand against graft and corruption in government.

The pastors, for their part, assured Lacson of their support for his HOPE platform of government. They told him they welcomed his HOPE platform because health is a major priority of their church. The Seventh-Day Adventist Church runs several hospitals nationwide.

In Bukidnon, Lacson also visited Malaybalay City and the towns of Manolo Fortich and Sumilao.

It was in Manolo Fortich that Lacson met with former jueteng witness Michaelangelo Zuce, who is now running for a local elective post there.

>From Bukidnon, Lacson proceeded to Davao where he visited Digos, Davao del Sur; Mati, Davao Oriental; Nabunturan, Compostela Valley; and Tagum, Davao del Norte.

During his visit at the Toril district in this city, Lacson received a warm welcome in what residents called "Lacson Country." Lacson inaugurated his campaign headquarters at Sandawa Road, SIR Matina and is scheduled to take part in a candle-lighting ceremony with youth representatives at the Centennial Park here Friday evening.
