KIKO ON THE MISSING US PEACE CORPS
VOLUNTEER JULIA CAMPBELL

Senate Majority Leader and independent re-electionist candidate Kiko Pangilinan expressed concern over the disappearance of U.S. Peace Corps volunteer Julia Campbell, who was reportedly missing since April 11, 2007.

"We join the family of Ms. Julia Campbell in prayer for her safety and immediate rescue," said Kiko. Campbell was last seen on April 8 in a famed tourist spot in Banaue.

Campbell had also served in villages in Donsol, Sorsogon. She also helped launch an ecological awareness campaign through building an "eco center" for the town.

The Peace Corps was formed to encourage Americans to undertake international outreach programs for the youth, community development, environment, education and information technology. They have deployed some 8,000 volunteers in the Philippines since 1961.

Kiko likewise commended the immediate response and cooperation of local authorities with the Peace Corps and the U.S. Embassy. "We commend the efforts of our local authorities in helping with the search and rescue operation for Ms. Campbell."

Thousands of missing person flyers has been posted throughout the search area and information is being released to the public and the media.

"We hope that this concerted effort will result to immediately finding Ms. Campbell safe and that no similar incident would happen again," Kiko ended.
