KIKO ON THE BUGGING OF PRES. CORY, THE DISAPPEARANCE OF
JAYJAY BURGOS AND THE RAMPANT VIOLATIONS OF HUMAN RIGHTS

"We are alarmed by the rash series of events that suggests that the country is on the road towards tyranny and that blatant human rights violations become the norm.

The buck stops with Malacañang . The President must do more to avert what appears to be our descent into lawlessness and tyranny. Malacañang must learn from the lesson of Isabel Peron, former president of Argentina, who a few months ago was arrested in Madrid and is now facing house arrest pending extradition to Argentina for her alleged involvement in death squads during her tenure as president from '74 to '76.

Malacañang must learn from Peron, get to the bottom of these abductions, disappearances and human rights violations and punish the perpetrators. It cannot and should not turn a blind eye.

If Malacañang fails to act on this, it may go the way of Peron and be made to account for these acts sooner or later. Malacañang can avoid a similar fate but now is the time for Malacañang to act and show its commitment to human rights and the rule of law. The buck stops with Malacañang ."
