Senate implements water, power saving measures

The Senate has taken the lead in implementing an energy and water saving plan in response to the current water and power shortage which has caused power interruptions in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The Office of Senate President Manny Villar has directed Senate Secretary Emma Lirio-Reyes to issue a memorandum detailing the said water and energy saving plan for immediate implementation in view of the current crisis.

The State-owned National Transmission Corp. has placed all power distribution companies on red alert since Wednesday, indicating that power interruptions could occur anytime without warning.

The Manila Electric Company implemented rolling brownouts due to the low power supply brought about by the slowing down of hydroelectric power plants on account of the dry spell.

"During these critical times, we must exhaust all appropriate measures to contribute to the alleviation of the effects of the current water and power shortage," the Senate President emphasized.

"Everyone, especially civil servants, should assume the burden and take part in providing remedies in every way possible and in enabling government to manage the situation best," Villar said.
