PIMENTEL LAUNCHES 7TH ART-FOR-CHANGE CONTEST

The "Art for Change" on-the-spot painting competition will be held for the seventh time under the auspices of the Office of Senate Minority Leader Aquilino "Nene" Q. Pimentel, Jr. (PDP-Laban), together with the Buhay Isang Awit Foundation, Inc.

The annual art contest, which is open to children from seven to 12 years old, will be held on November 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Central Atrium, Robinsons Place Pioneer EDSA cor. Pioneer Street, Mandaluyong City.

The theme of the art competition will be announced on the day it is held, organizers of the event said.

Entries to the "Art for Change" contest will be done with oil pastels on illustration boards. The 10 winning entries will be displayed in public in future exhibits to be sponsored by the Office of Senator Pimentel and the Buhay Isang Awit Foundation.

The remaining entries will be included in future arts exhibits and sales to be held at the Senate Building and the Museo Pambata on Rizal Park, Roxas Boulevard, Manila for the benefit of various charitable and child-caring organizations.

"We see education through our children's eyes," Sen. Pimentel says.

On the other hand, Mrs. Lourdes "Bing" Pimentel, President of Buhay Isang Awit Foundation, remarks, "We are looking here not necessarily at the best drawing or painting skills but stories that are interpreted by our youth without words."

Pre-registration starts November 5 and ends November 15, 2007 at Rm 601, 6th Floor, Office of Senator Pimentel, GSIS Bldg, Roxas Blvd, Pasay City. Registration proper will take place at the contest venue on November 17 at 10:00 a.m. Prizes include a Nokia 5070 Globe Phonekit, cash, certificates of award, gift certificates and other wonderful surprises.

"We have had tremendous response in the past six years with many talented youths coming to participate in this art event." Pimentel said.

Major sponsors for the 2007 Art for Change are Robinsons Place Galleria, Globe Telecom, and National Book Store.
