Press statement of Senator M.A. Madrigal on the Alston report

" The Alston Report is an indictment of the Arroyo Administration. Secretary Norberto Gonzales should resign! Mrs. Arroyo's failure to protect human rights is rooted in her incompetence and inability to cope with complicated social, economic and political problems, and her desire to stay in power at all costs. The issue of legitimacy is closely linked with human rights, the higher the degree of illegitimacy, the more unstable the country is. This is a wake-up call from an impartial foreign observer. If we do not heed this, the Philippines will be marked by the international community for its gross human rights violations."
