Noynoy pushes for transparency in Kilos Asenso fund releases

Senator Benigno "Noynoy" S. Aquino III today filed an amendment to the 2008 General Appropriations Bill seeking increased transparency in the release of the Php 3-billion Kilos Asenso Support Fund.

Under the proposed amendment, the allocation of the Kilos Asenso Support Fund will be subject to pro rata apportionment among 5th and 6th class municipalities, according to their population. The amendment also ensures that the funds are automatically released upon approval of the municipality's development plan proposal.

"We hope that these measures will ensure the use of these public funds for developmental, rather than political, purposes."

Aquino's amendments were accepted by Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, Chairman of the Committee on Finance and sponsor of the General Appropriations Bill, and duly approved by the Senate in plenary session.
