Press Release January 31, 2008 Statement of Sen. Nene Pimentel on Malacañang's announcement that it is considering the abolition of PCGG The Presidential Commission on Good Governance has been at its job for more than 20 years now. It's primary function is to locate the hidden Marcos wealth and identify the Marcos cronies who are supposedly the owners of sequestered firms. Up to now, many radio stations and some TV stations are under sequestration without any end in sight. I think that even if you extend the life of PCGG to 100 years, they still would not be able to ascertain the names of the true owners of the sequestered firms. I suggest that the PCGG should be abolished now before it completely dissipates the assets and funds of the firms their representatives are supposed to preserve and take care of. |
