KIKO OPEN TO REACHING OUT TO MALACAÑANG ON FOOD CRISIS...
"But Senate will not backtrack on performing its role as a check and balance to the Executive!"

Amidst the worsening situation of food shortage in the country, Senate Majority Leader and Independent senator Kiko Pangilinan today expressed willingness to reach out to Malacañang despite the Senate and the Executive's heated battle in the Supreme Court on a separate issue of executive privilege on the NBN ZTE deal.

"Considering the urgency of the matter, as an independent, I am amenable to the Senate's reaching out to the Arroyo government for the purpose of forging a common effort to address the food crisis. However, this effort must not in anyway be construed as the Senate backtracking from vigorously performing its constitutional role as a check and balance on the executive department. By all means, we must forge a united effort in addressing the food crisis yes but this should not be done at the expense of public accountability," Kiko said.

"As political leaders, we must learn to manage our political differences effectively so as not to disrupt the delivery of basic services. This is a challenge to all of us in the public sector." Kiko ended.
