Biazon Supports General Yano

Senator Rodolfo G Biazon today said he supports the assumption to the position of Chief of Staff to the Armed Forces of the Philippines of Lt General Alexander Yano. "General Yano is coming in with a clean slate. He is assuming that office without baggage and therefore would be able to project credibility to the position. "

"He seems to exude trustworthiness."

"Reports are that his assumption to the office is welcome to the rank and file and officer corps of the AFP," the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Defense cited.

"Even certain elements within the Armed Forces of the Philippines who had exhibited certain reservations in the appointment of previous Chiefs of Staff especially the outgoing one, also welcome the designation of General Yano."

"General Yano as AFP Chief of Staff will have an easier time responding to the compelling issues of national security being addressed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines." Biazon said the issues that are waiting to be addressed are the following:

1. The anti insurgency strategy;
2. The possible consequence of the failure of the peace process in Mindanao;
3. Prioritization in relation to the AFP Modernization Law through the development of our internal defense capability vis - a- vis external defense; and
4. Professionalization in terms of morale and discipline of the Armed Forces.

"I project therefore that General Yano's appointment by the President of the Republic of the Philippines will find smooth sailing in the Commission on Appointments, " Biazon concluded.
