KIKO ON SONA: NO HOPE WHERE THERE'S NO TRUST

"No matter what the grand plans are, or however the so-called successes trumpeted, if the people do not trust their leaders, with little or no public support, the programs can not truly succeed and the successes will be viewed with skepticism and doubt," Senate Majority Leader and Independent senator Kiko Pangilinan today stressed, following President Arroyo's State of the Nation Address (SONA) yesterday.

A non-commissioned survey of Pulse Asia, conducted from July 1-14, revealed the national presidential performance and trust ratings hardly moved between March and July 2008. 53 percent expressed distrust in President Arroyo, with only 19 percent trusting her and 28 percent undecided.

"What we need for our nation faced with serious challenges is inspiring leadership with vision and principle. The true state of the nation cries out for genuine leadership. The hunger that the Philippines battles with is more than that of the empty stomach, but of desire for leadership that can spark confidence and motivate direction among our people," Kiko ended.
