KIKO WARNS: CHACHA BID CAN BACKFIRE
"They will only be courting public outrage... the admin should back off"

Senate Majority Leader and Independent senator Kiko Pangilinan today rejected the proposal for a constitutional amendment to bring about the Bangsamoro Juridical Entity (BJE).

"There is no such thing as one amendment only. When the ChaCha process begins, anything and everything in the charter can be tinkered with including term extension for the Arroyo administration," Kiko warned.

"Yes, we oppose Charter Change (ChaCha) under the current political situation. Any ChaCha should be done after 2010. We will vigorously oppose any effort by this administration to push for constitutional amendments before its term expires in 2010," Kiko asserted.

PGMA reiterated her call for federalism during Swiss Presidential Paschal Couchepin's visit yesterday. She cited the need to amend the Constitution in order to pave the way for the controversial GRP-MILF Peacepact.

"The people have not forgotten the attempt to railroad ChaCha in 2007. The people should not be taken for fools. Those pushing PGMA to consider ChaCha are doing her and this nation a great disservice. This could very well be this administration's undoing if it insists on ChaCha before 2010. They are courting public outrage if they insist on ChaCha at this time," Kiko ended.
