GORDON EXTOLS TIYA DELY'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE COUNTRY'S MEDIA INDUSTRY

Senator Richard Gordon expressed his sincerest commiseration with the family of Tiya Dely Magpayo, as he praised her contribution to the broadcasting industry and to the country through her radio program.

"We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Tiya Dely. Generations of her radio listeners will no doubt miss her. She spent 68 years of her life not only informing people about various issues that affect their lives, but also, like a dear tiya or aunt, tried her best to give guidance to people who sought her counsel," Gordon said.

The Senator is filing a Senate Resolution honoring her as the "First Lady" of Philippine Radio and for her lifetime service and dedication to the broadcasting industry. Other senators who expressed intention in co-sponsoring the Gordon Resolution include Senate President Manuel Villar, Senators Loren Legarda and Miguel Zubiri.

Gordon said Tiya Dely is a great loss to the country, because more than being an icon in the radio industry, she was a decent woman who hardly attacked anybody, and would rather inculcate values to the people through her program.

Tiya Dely was among the recipients of the Gawad Plaridel award of the University of the Philippines in 2006, for keeping her dedication, integrity and professionalism to her job.

Gordon, who was one of Tiya Dely's favorites, said that until her last days she had shown her dedication and professionalism to her job, when she insisted to go on with her program despite suffering a stroke.

"I've known her for many years, being one of her favorite guests on her radio program and having been with her during many social occasions. Even if I was not her guest, she would mention me and my work in the Red Cross," Gordon said.

"For me, she was always a welcome treat. And honestly, she humbled me. She would give praises, and I know she was sincere. She was a woman with a golden heart, a beacon of hope and service. She lived up to her name "Magpayo", by giving advices to those who consult her. With her demise, we feel, as millions of others, a great and irreplaceable loss," Gordon said.
