KIKO: DON'T STOP AT PALAWAN OIL FIND, EXPLORE ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES

Senate Majority Leader and Independent senator Kiko Pangilinan today called on authorities to continue to explore alternative sources of energy following the discovery of oil reserves in Palawan.

"We need to look to alternative sources of energy and lessen our use of oil whether locally produced or imported. The new oil find, while a source of energy, impacts on climate change," Kiko warned.

Oil exploration in Palawan proved to be successful, with government finding oil reserves which, according to authorities, can offer oil at P2 less than commercially imported oil for about 3 years. Kiko however insisted on focusing on renewable energy sources that are more friendly to the environment.

"The new bill, the Renewable Energy Bill should serve as the guidepost that we need to move away from dependence on oil and to pursue other energy sources such as geothermal, hydro and wind power," Kiko ended.
