Gordon enlists PMAP's support to scholarship, bloodletting drive

Independent Senator Richard J. Gordon has enlisted the support of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) to his scholarship program as well as to the Philippine National Red Cross' (PNRC) bloodletting drive.

Gordon, PNRC chairman and chief executive officer, asked PMAP to support the two activities he initiated during the organization's 542nd General Membership Meeting (GMM) where he gave the keynote address.

"Giving better education to our children today is one way of building our country's future because good education is very important if we want to have a brighter future for the Philippines," he said.

"Sadly, the country's educational system has been neglected. In line with your theme 'Creating the Future of the Philippines (Harnessing the Filipino Spirit),' PMAP can help give better education to our children by supporting our scholarship program," he added.

Gordon has been campaigning for an improved health care and educational system in the more than 32,000 public schools across the country, noting its importance to the country's development.

He filed the Health and Education Acceleration Program (HEAP) which seeks to get a portion of telecommunication companies' annual net revenue from text messages to fund the improvement of the country's health care and educational system.

"The country has gained the title of being the 'text capital of the world,' with about two billion text messages being sent daily by more than 73 million mobile phone subscribers nationwide. Just how imagine how much each can contribute to this cause," he said.

With regard to the PNRC's bloodletting drive aimed to augment the blood supply in the country, Gordon asked the new PMAP leadership headed by its newly-elected president Grace Abella Zata to support the campaign by donating blood.

He added that if a member may not be qualified to donate blood or ill-disposed to do so, he can instead donate funds needed to process the safety-keeping of the blood.

"Members can either donate blood or they can also donate funds to the PNRC. Aside from blood, Red Cross also needs funds for the expenses entailed by bloodletting. We pay for the blood bags, the processing itself, among others," he said.

PMAP is a 52-year old professional organization of human resource management practitioners with 19 chapters and 1,200 member companies nationwide.
