Loren on rare RP quail

It doesn't speak well of our environmental consciousness when a rare quail variety found only in the Philippines is sold for P10 and is cooked, despite being identified as an endangered species(Worcester's buttonquail: scientific name, Turnix worcesteri).

I ask the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to conduct an environmental survey of the area where the bird, thought to have already gone extinct, had been found. There may still be some of them remaining, which the DENR and its attached agencies may rescue and put into a sanctuary for possible reproduction.

"Maybe we can do something in the mold of the program to save the Philippine Eagle, not only on this particular bird variety but on other indigenous animals under threat of extinction."
