CHIZ TO MEET WITH AUSTRALIAN PM

Sen. Chiz Escudero is set to meet with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and other high-ranking government officials and discuss important issues like trade, human rights, labor and immigration during a special visit to Australia scheduled from March 9-11.

It also includes stops in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne where he will also meet and hold forums with Filipino community and business leaders and Filipino-Australian associations.

Among the officials Escudero will be holding talks with are Human Rights Commissioner Graeme Innes, Immigration and Citizenship Minister Sen. Christopher Evans, Minister of Trade MP Simon Crean, and Department of Employment Assistant Secretary Cary Duffy.

Australia continues to be one of the top destinations for migrants, and there are an estimated 130,000 Filipinos living and working there.

The invitation comes on the heels of a recent visit by Escudero to Taiwan where he was recognized as one of the top emerging young leaders of Asia.

Two-way trade between the Philippines and Australia from 2007-08 reached $2 billion.
