On SC's decision to allow 38 more party list representatives
to sit in Congress...

Cha-cha is dead!

I welcome the Supreme Court decision to allow 38 more Party-list representatives to sit in Congress. This means that the administration must get the support, not only of all 38 new lawmakers, but also of the 22 it currently needs to push its plot to change the Constitution.

More meaningful is the fact that the SC decision in Banat v. COMELEC widens sectoral representation as provided for and envisioned by the Constitution. It realizes the policy and rationale behind RA No. 7941 which is the attainment of "the broadest possible representation of party, sectoral or group interests in the House of Representatives."

This unprecedented development completes the 20 percent composition of proportional representation of marginalized sectors in the House of Representatives and widens even more the democratic space envisioned by the makers of our constitution.
