Villar is top pick for president- IBON survey

Nacionalista President Sen. Manny Villar emerged as the top contender in the 2010 presidential elections according to the latest non-commissioned presidential survey of IBON Foundation Inc. conducted on July 4 to 11.

Based on the two-staged survey, which has 1,495 respondents nationwide and +-3 margin of error, Villar toppled Sen. Francis Escudero, who was the first place in IBON's April 17 to 26 survey.

When respondents were asked who they want to vote for as president without showing them a list, Villar was named by 13.44% while 11.37% named Escudero.

In the second question where respondents were shown a list of presidentiables, Villar was still the top pick with 17.12%, followed by Escudero with 15.32%.

Contrasted with the previous survey released on May 17, the newest survey of IBON showed a reversal of ranks between Villar and Escudero. In the unaided question, 13.17% named Escudero while only 11.83% chose Villar. When respondents were shown a list, Escudero topped with 16.98% followed by Villar with 14.64%.

In the unaided and aided questions, the July 4 to 11 IBON survey also showed former President Joseph Estrada with 11.3% and 11.57%; Vice President Noli de Castro, 9.5% and 12.11%; Sen. Loren Legarda, 6.56% and 8.76%; and Sen. Mar Roxas, 6.15% and 7.16%.
