Transcript of interview with Sen. Richard J. Gordon

On Senate inquiry re the nefarious activities committed by telecommunications companies against their subscribers

Sen. Gordon: What we want to do is protect the public by having a toll-free hotline, halimbawa you have to distinguish between the legitimate content providers and the renegade ones. I made some recommendations, for example, that toll-free hotline by NTC, halimbawa may tumawag sa inyo na sinabi nanalo kayo sa raffle alam nyo nara-raket kayo, you can ask for the cancellation of the number right away.

Pangalawa, kung may push, yung tinutulak yung produkto, dapat sabihin kaagad kung ano ang pangalan nung nagtutulak para sa ganun you can report that also to the telcos hotline.

Finally, yung double opt-in na tinatawag na pag ikaw nag-subscribe, pag tumawag na ulit, sasabihin ulit sayo you are subscribing para you have two chances to make sure that you are opting in correctly, so you can opt out of it if you need to do that. So kailangan may opt out yung gagawin. Yung opt out means you want to get out of the subscription already.

On Cory's death

Q: The Aquinos did not accept the government's offer for a state funeral Sen. Gordon: That is their privilege. Although, of course, I would have preferred a state funeral, she is after all the President of the Philippines, and not just an ordinary President, she's a symbol of democracy attained by way of mass rallies by the people. To my mind, dapat lang bigyan siya. But Cory has always been a private person, she was always uncomfortable with publicity, that's why I respect her a lot, for what she has done as a symbol for the world and for moral rectitude.

To my mind dapat tularan yung hindi masyadong magarbong pagka-pangulo niya at hanggang sa naalis na siya sa pagka-pangulo simple pa rin yung kaniyang buhay. Much is always expected of a president but as far as I am concerned, yung moral ascendancy she surpassed that. And the very fact that she was able to protect the democracy of our country makes her somebody that should have had a state funeral. Kung wala man, I think the greatest honor you see on the streets right now, a lot of people are going there, talo ang state funeral doon.

I just hope, we will be worthy, all of us, our people, kaming mga namumuno ay dapat maging worthy na matunghayan yung kaniyang mensahe na talagang moral rectitude. Hindi nasali yung kamay niya, hindi namantsahan yung kaniyang kamay at yung kaniyang puso ay hindi na-corrupt.

Q: According to Cong.
