Transcript of Ambush Interview of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile

ON Sen. NOYNOY AQUINO

SP Noynoy's mother was a former president. She just passed away and the swelling of grieving people for her, the anniversary of the father's death came, and there was a national recollection of his sacrifices. We have to accept the fact that that has political value.

Q: Sir, don't you think that can make him win?

SP I do not know. He has to gauge that. He has to go around the country and test the waters.

Q: Sir, so he cannot bank on the popularity of his parents alone?

SP In the end, every candidate will have to depend upon his own personal acceptance by the electorate. Once they knew you and identify with you, that's it. But that's a difficult thing to do, over a short period of time.

Q: Sir, hindi pa ba sya late in the race?

SP It all depends on the people handling him. It is very difficult to run a national election for the presidency in so short a time but it is not impossible. You have to establish organizations, not just in the provincial level, but down to the grassroot level. That is the most ideal situation. At least up to the municipal level.

Q: Sir, ano ang ineexpect natin sa Committee of the Whole hearing bukas? Paano yung ocular inspection na napostpone?

SP We will hear first the witnesses that were subpoenaed, and then we'll do an ocular inspection.

Q: Afternoon?

SP We do not know yet. I'm not going to tell you when, I will surprise all of you. They wanted to surprise us, I will surprise them also.

Q: These subpoenaed people, from what departments are they?

SP I think we also sent subpoenas to the following: Secretary of Budget and Management; Miss Doblon of the Senate; and some people from the Department of Public Works and Highways under Secretary Ebdane.

Q: Any from Central Bank?

SP Not yet.
