Gordon wants SCTEX extended farther North

Senator Richard J. Gordon ( Ind. ) is eyeing the extension of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) farther north to spur development in Northern Luzon through the creation of economic and industrial zones.

Gordon pointed out that the SCTEX could be extended to Pangasinan, La Union, Laoag and even all the way to Cagayan later on.

He said extending the SCTEX would give more accessibility to the provinces in Northern Luzon , which would pave the way for the entry of more businesses that would subsequently mean stronger economy for the regions and for the country.

"With all the developments there on both sides of the highway, you can have all the businesses and they don't have to be all economic zones. That is the vision," the senator said.

The opening of the SCTEX made the provinces of Subic, Clark and Tarlac more accessible to travelers.

The properties on both sides of the expressway have also become ideal for development, such as the creation of economic zones and industrial zones; they could even be prospective sites for universities.

Gordon said development in these areas would generate employment for the people in these provinces so they would not have to seek employment in Manila .

"The very purpose of infrastructure is to provide development, provide employment so that people won't have to go to Manila or even to foreign shores to find their future. We have done that in Subic , our people did not have to go abroad for employment, they found employment right here," he said.
