KIKO PANGILINAN URGES STRICT IMPLEMENTATION OF SPEED LIMIT FOR BUSES, PROPOSES MODERNIZING INFRASTRUCTURE TO SOLVE PUBLIC TRANSPORT WOES

In light of piling number of road accidents involving reckless bus drivers, independent senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan urges officials to strictly implement speed limits for the road behemoths.

"Prescribed rate of speed as per section 35 of RA 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code) is 20 km per hour if approaching intersections, passing blind corners or similar dangerous circumstances. On boulevards, clear of traffic, 30 km per hour is the speed limit for buses. Evidently, these are not being observed."

Pangilinan also proposes an overhaul of the country's infrastructure program that will contribute greatly to easing the woes of mass transportation and worsening gridlock.

"Infrastructure will provide a lot of our countrymen jobs. But we need an Infrastructure Modernization Act that will get rid of corruption and bureaucracy that slows down the flow of funds available for road projects. Laos na at bulok ang ating mga kalsada. Kailangan natin ng marami pang 6-lane highways at modernong mass transportation."

"Walang epekto ang paglagay ng bus lanes kung sa dami nila ay hindi magkakasya ang mga ito sa kahabaan ng EDSA. Kung madadagdagan ang mga lanes, maiiwasan ang swerving at matatakot ang mga tao na pumara ng alanganin sa kalsada."
