ANGARA BATS FOR SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET FOR ONDOY VICTIMS

Senator Edgardo J. Angara yesterday said that he will act on the request for funds for the victims of the recent tragedy with utmost urgency and enthusiasm.

"We will work with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for fast action to rescue, support and help our fellow Filipinos get up from this catastrophe. With urgency and enthusiasm I will support supplemental budget like what we did for Bicol and Paglaum," said Angara who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance.

Sen. Angara urged his colleagues to support this measure to have an immediate disbursing fund and provide a long term rehabilitation relief fund which can only be done through a supplemental budget. And with this incident the Senator is hopeful for an urgent response.

He added, "In anticipation of future calamity we have got to study and have our experts look into the drainage system of Metro Manila. There are places that never experienced flooding before but are tremendously affected now."

While commending those who acted and responded immediately and initiated rescue operations Sen. Angara encouraged his countrymen to organize and help because current operations are miniscule compared to the magnitude of the typhoon victims. "We need all the help we can get," laments Angara.

Sen. Angara said that they will focus first on the 28 provinces and cities that declared state of calamity and will work together with Public Works and the House of Representatives to determine proper appropriations to cope with this catastrophe.

"I pray that we will all be given the strength of will and compassion so that we may respond to the calamity with the highest sense of urgency, efficiency and order,' ended Angara.
