ANGARA OUTLINES TO-DO LIST FOR 2010 CANDIDATES

At the recent Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) National Executive Council meeting, party chairman Senator Edgardo J. Angara outlined key points that 2010 candidates must present in their platform of governance:

  • First, a CLEAN HANDS CAMPAIGN that will promote good governance, ferret out corruption, promote efficiency in the delivery of the best public service possible, and uphold the rule of law.

  • Second, a CLEAN ENERGY PROGRAM to preserve the environment, provide energy sufficiency and raise the Filipinos' living standards.

  • Third, HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT - building up our human resources through education and training, health and sanitation, food security through agricultural productivity, and decent communal facilities for our people.

  • Fourth, an INTELLIGENT NETWORK OF ROADS, HIGHWAYS AND BRIDGES that connect the archipelago, rather than haphazardly building roads that lead nowhere. In addition to land, sea and air transportation, we need A SMART INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION NETWORK that will connect the thousands of islands and millions of people in our country.

  • Finally, a strong CULTURE AND ARTS PROGRAM that will define and promote Filipinos' innate creativity, artistry and identity.

"All these should lead to decent jobs, self-esteem and dignity, and higher living standards for Filipinos," he said.

Angara said the 6-year period from 2010 to 2016 will be critical for the Philippines. "Therefore, those who aspire to lead us during that period should present to us a roadmap of progress, if not our very survival. Those who seek the country's leadership must define a clear and doable platform," he said.

The LDP passed a party resolution officially endorsing Senator Loren Legarda as its vice presidential candidate for 2010.
