SENATOR MAR ROXAS' CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

I hope that 2009 has been kind to you as it has been to me. I, for one, am thankful for having finally been united with Korina as husband and wife; for the good health of the people I hold dear; and for the continuing support from friends, family, and the Filipino people. I remain hopeful that the coming year will bring even more blessings as the nation looks forward to actively effecting positive, meaningful change in our country.

The past year has certainly been, for you and the rest of the nation, a time of joys as well as of tears. Hindi kayo nag-iisa. The Filipino's resilience in the face of countless crises embodies our commitment to the future: It embodies our collective hope that tomorrow will be better. We will not give up. Makakaraos din; lalaban tayo.

And that is what the birth of our Saviour ultimately reminds us of: That there is a way out of the darkness; that the light of good will guide us as we fight for what is right; and that the promise of the Almighty--that our faith, our resilience, and our sacrifice will be rewarded--still stands.

This Christmas, may we remain steadfast in our commitment to put conscience over ambition, principles over glory, integrity above power, and country above self. Let us be united in building a nation of worth; a society of self-reliance; and a government that puts the people's interests top and center.

May we take to heart the true meaning of this holiday season: Community, gratitude, and above all, hope.

Ramdam ko kayo. Hinding-hindi ko kayo pababayaan. Palagi, bayan bago sa aking sarili; kayo, bago ako.

Happy holidays!
