For medical sponsorship
Villar's help cited

Nacionalista Party (NP) president Sen. Manny Villar welcomed into his home in Las Piñas a boy he earlier accorded medical help and the latter's mother who expressed gratitude for the gift of health Villar was instrumental in bringing about for her son.

Jennelyn Guansing, 35, housewife to a farmer, and mother of three-year-old Sam Miguel, said she finally got the chance to personally thank the senator for sponsoring her son's medical operations necessary to give him normalcy.

The boy was born on Jan. 26, 2006 in Occidental Mindoro with imperforate anus which made him unable to get rid of waste in his body the normal way. Realizing this condition two days after his birth, Jennelyn and her husband Moreto borrowed money to save the newborn's life through colostomy.

However, two more medical operations valued at over P100,000 were called for to accord Sam physical normalcy which the NP president sponsored in response to the mother's plea. The operations were performed by pediatric surgeon Dr. Esther Saguil at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila.

Jennelyn recalled the story about Villar's own sibling who passed away unable to get adequate medical treatment while they wallowed in poverty in the slums of Tondo. Believing that the NP president would have sympathy over her son's predicament, she wrote him to beg for help and got an answer.

Gratefully presenting the boy to Villar during their visit to the senator's residence, Jennelyn said, "Habambuhay ko pong pasasalamatan ang pagtulong ninyo nang lubos upang mabuhay ng normal ang aking anak. Nawa'y ang kanyang naging kalagayan ay magpaalala sa maraming pasalamatan ang kanilang normal na kalagayan at kalusugan."

The NP standard-bearer said, "Ang karapatan ng ating mga mamamayan sa kalusugan ay hindi dapat ipagkait sa mahihirap. Ito ay nararapat lamang na para sa lahat."
