Urging for legal framework and innovated curriculum for science & math
ANGARA BATS FOR COMSTE EXTENSION

Senator Edgardo J. Angara today said that the extension of the Congressional Commission on Science & Technology and Engineering (COMSTE) will stimulate the economy and spur the growth of new technologies, clean industries and create green jobs in the Philippines. This he said during the public hearing for COMSTE's extension held this morning at the Senate.

"The extension of COMSTE will sustain the reforms needed for research and development. It will institutionalize synergy and attach technology based investments locally and internationally," said Angara who chairs the Senate Committee on Science and Technology.

He added, "The Philippines has yet to achieve the level of technological readiness and innovative aptitude that epitomizes well-developed economies and those entering the developed phase."

"There is a continuing need for a homegrown technology that will put leverage for global science and tech," notes Angara.

COMSTE's recent salient action is the Algae research that aims to develop clean coal, ethanol and clean water. More over, they are promoting National Telehealth thru Medical tourism.

Meanwhile, Angara urged COMSTE to propose a legal framework and innovate education curriculum that will make science and mathematics more palatable for professionals and attract the best and the brightest of the generation and the generations to come," said Angara.
