Aquino vows no favors for allies, supporters

Liberal Party standard bearer Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" S. Aquino III said Friday he will not extend favors to allies and supporters, particularly from big business, even as he vowed to level the playing field during his administration.

"The most they can expect under my presidency is a level playing field. I will not favor anyone. The market will decide if their business grows or not. If they have pending cases, I will not help them. That would be playing favorites," Aquino said in a radio interview on DZBB.

"The most I can do is to look into claims of oppression. But if they are the oppressors, I am sorry but I will not lift a finger to help them," he said.

In the hour-long interview, Aquino also admitted that six years may be too short to solve the country's long-standing problems, but the senator from Tarlac said he hopes to put the country back on the right track as president.

Aquino said the key reforms he will implement are expanding the education cycle to 12 years, improving revenue collection from the 12-13 to 15 percent, and ensuring that criminals and corrupt government officials are swiftly sent to jail.

"We know who they are. Our primary goal is to win the fight against corruption and injustice. Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap," Aquino said.
