ROXAS CONFIDENT LP BETS IN QC ARE WINNERS
SWS POLL SHOWS BAUTISTA, BELMONTE LEADERS IN LOCAL RACE

Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Sen. Mar Roxas today said he is confident that the LP bets in Quezon City -- mayoralty bet Vice-Mayor Herbert Bautista and his running-mate Councilor Joy Belmonte -- are sure winners in the May 10 national and local elections.

Roxas said this is proven by the January survey of Social Weather Stations, one of the authoritative polling firms in the country that gave Bautista and Belmonte wide leads - as much as 60 percentage points -- over their opponents in the city's voters' preference to vote for mayor and vice-mayor.

Roxas and LP standard-bearer Sen. Noynoy Aquino are also leading in all pre-election voter preference surveys for Filipinos' voting preferences for the May 10 national and local elections.

He said his and Aquino's call for new leaders who will good governance principles and pursue reforms is best exemplified by young and intelligent public servants like the Bautista-Belmonte tandem.

In the mayoralty race survey, Bautista was picked by 75% of the respondents. He was followed by Rep. Mary Ann Susano with 9%; Michael Defensor, 6%; Ismael Mathay Jr., 5%; and Antonio Inton, 3%.

On the other hand, Belmonte led the vice mayoralty race with a 60% rating. In second spot was Janet 'Babes' Malaya with 19% and Aiko Melendez, 17%.

The SWS survey, sponsored by Mr. Giovanni V. Estrada, was conducted from December 16 to 19, 2009 among randomly picked residents of Quezon City's four congressional districts: 100 from District 1, 200 from District 2, 100 from District 3 and 100 from District 4.

Roxas said Bautista's and Belmonte's own public service record over the past decade also show their ability to respond effectively to their constituents' needs, thus their very big support among Quezon City voters.
