NP BET MAY HAVE ALREADY PEAKED
VILLAR LOSING TRUST OF VOTERS EVEN MORE AS HE HIKES
SPENDING ON ADS - KIKO

Liberal Party Sen. Kiko Pangilinan yesterday said the latest Pulse Asia survey shows that the NP bet, Sen. Manny Villar, is losing the trust of even more voters as he continues to outspend his rivals in print, radio, and television advertising.

"It looks like Sen. Villar has reached the point of diminishing returns. In simpler terms, he might have already peaked. Naiirita na ang mga tao sa dami ng kanyang ads," said Pangilinan, who is the campaign manager for the LP senatorial ticket.

He pointed out that in the first month of the official campaign period; Villar's trust ratings dropped the most among the presidential candidates, even as the NP bet had the most ads during that period.

The Pulse Asia survey, conducted from February 21 to 25, shows that Villar's trust ratings dropped by 11 percentage points to 59 from the 70 percentage points recorded in the polling firm's survey in January.

Aquino, on the other hand, held steady at 64 percentage points, making him the most trusted presidential candidate.

Pangilinan noted that the latest report by the AGB Nielsen Media Research group shows that Villar has spent a total of P1.4 billion from January to December 2009, compared to the P143 million spent by Sen. Aquino from October to December last year.

From Feb. 9 to March 8, 2010, Sen. Villar has placed ads worth P150 million or about 34 percent of the P442 million total ad value posted by the six candidates who had placements in TV, radio, and print, Nielsen said.

Sen. Aquino's total ad placements for the same period amounted to P83.3 million, inclusive of discounts, the report said.

"This indicates that the people can see through all the hype in those'tunay na mahirap' ads. It is also comforting to note that despite the black propaganda, Sen. Noy continues to have the trust of most Filipino voters and this is why he has maintained his lead over Sen. Villar," Pangilinan said.
