Villar, Pacquiao ready to 'rumble' in Sarangani

Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manny Villar threw his all-out support behind Manny Pacquiao, NP congressional bet in Sarangani, as the campaign period for local positions started.

Villar, along with his running mate Sen. Loren Legarda and the pound-for-pound king, arrived at the General Santos Airport yesterday morning. They immediately held a motorcade to the towns of Maasim, Kiamba and Maitum to kick off Pacquiao's congressional bid.

Pacquiao has also announced that he would join the political rallies and campaign sorties of Villar. "He (Pacquiao) would definitely grace some of our major rallies. We know that he has his own campaign to take care of, so we would not ask him to attend every event," said Villar.

People's Champ Movement (PCM), the political party of the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion, forged an alliance with Villar-led NP in December last year.

Gusto namin silang makaahon sa hirap kagaya namin," Pacquiao earlier said.

Both Villar and Pacquiao defied poverty through perseverance and hard work to become successful.

Pacquiao is pitted against businessman Roy Chiongbian in his bid for Sarangani's lone congressional seat.
