LOREN APPEALS TO WOMEN VOTERS FOR SUPPORT

The only female candidate for vice president, NP-NPC-LDP bet Loren Legarda today called on women voters to use their force in the May 10 polls.

"We already know the President will be a male. I humbly ask our female populace to support one among them - a woman. I believe the country needs an 'ina ng tahanan' and I vow to take care of the Filipino people as a mother would to her children," appealed Loren.

Known primarily as an environment crusader, Loren is also an advocate of health, food security and women's rights.

In the Senate, Loren helped usher the passage of the Magna Carta of Women.

She also passed the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act, Anti-Human Trafficking Act, Women and Children Crisis Survivors Assistance and Protection Act, the Women Empowerment Act and the Women Empowerment in Enterprise Act.

"Women are integral part of development and progress. We will not stop fighting until we have put an end to violence against women, because only then will we see true gender balance and holistic social transformation," she said.

She also called for the implementation of Barangay Kabuhayan law and the empowerment of women entrepreneurs through the Micro, Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (MSMEs), two laws that she authored to address women unemployment especially in rural areas.

"Make use of your vote. Vote wisely. Don't pick candidates based on celebrity or wealth, but vote for who you know shares your dreams and ambitions. There's a saying that 'mothers know best' and I fully agree. Vote for who you know will take the best care of you, your education, health, civil and political rights," she said.
