Aquino: Volunteers will ensure big LP win

Leading presidential candidate Benigno "Noynoy" S. Aquino III said Tuesday that instead of merely relying on political machinery, the Liberal Party (LP) will also bank on volunteers to pull off a win in the May polls.

"We will rely on our volunteers, our Yellow Army. Running our campaign differently shows we can run the government differently," Aquino said during a rally at the Catbalogan Municipal Hall in Samar.

Aquino said in earlier interviews that the "comparative advantage" of his campaign came from the "ability to mobilize volunteers all over the country."

Aquino was in Samar to preside over the LP rally there. The gathering was held in a small venue in front of the city hall, but supporters crowded the venue to greet Aquino.

The volunteers wore yellow shirts and flashed the Laban sign to show solidarity with Aquino's vision to bring about a clean and compassionate government that will dedicate the government's resources to services for the poor such as housing, healthcare, and education.

Aquino in the rally expressed his trust in running mate Sen. Mar Roxas. "Our alliance is solid," said Aquino. "If anything happens to me, I know Mar is the best guy to continue our fight."

Aquino and Roxas, who both hold double-digit leads over other candidates in the latest Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia presidential and vice-presidential surveys, have been campaigning on a platform of good governance and freedom from the culture of corruption, the foremost cause of injustice and poverty in the country.
