SEN. BONG REVILLA REJECTS THE PROPOSED 250 PERCENT
SLEX TOLL FEE HIKE

SENATOR Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. yesterday took a hard stance against South Luzon Expressway Corporation's (SLEC) plan for toll fee increase at South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

"This is revolting. The increase that they are asking is too much," the senator commented.

In opposing the toll fee hike, Bong Revilla ordered the TRB to study the SLEC application if the request is justified.

Earlier, the SLEC has asked the TRB to allow them to implement a 250 percent increase in toll rates from Alabang to Calamba.

Presently, the toll rate at SLEX is 75 centavos per kilometer. Light vehicles are being charged with P22 from Alabang to Calamba; P43 for buses and P65 for trucks.

If the TRB approve the 250 percent increase, drivers of light vehicles plying the 27-kilometer SLEX route will have to pay P77; P155 and P232 for buses and trucks, respectively.

TRB Spokesperson Julius Corpus told the senator that the bureau has yet to issue its final approval. He said the TRB has yet to determine the toll fee matrix.

The senator, chairman of Senate Committee on Public Works and Services, is especially concerned with the passengers.

"This will further burden the passengers and private motorists. I will make it sure that there will be no fare movement in relation to the imminent toll fee increase," the senator said.

The Light Transportation and Franchise Regulatory Board (LTFRB), on the other hand, assured the senator that there will be no fare adjustments if the SLEC implement the toll fee increase.
