on Rushed Appointments by the CA

"I am troubled by reports that certain groups are pushing for the Commission on Appointments to convene in order to confirm the appointments of several of Mrs. Arroyo's appointees, this while Congress is still in the process of canvassing the votes for president and vice-president.

"The joint session has been called for one purpose - to canvass the votes, and nothing more. To focus on other matters not vital to national interest will serve no other end than to delay the proclamation of the country's new leaders and therefore give undue disrespect to the mandate of the people.

"Our country has been given another chance to reclaim its lost dignity. I appeal to our colleagues in both houses of Congress to focus on the higher interest and fulfill its constitutional obligation. The people have spoken, it is about time the government listens."
