ZUBIRI: No talks with Kris, Aquino family on Senate Presidency issue

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri today clarified he has not spoken to actress Kris Aquino-Yap, sister of President-elect Benigno Aquino III, in relation to the bid of Liberal Party Sen. Francis Pangilinan to become the next Senate President.

"I want to make things clear because neither me nor my Chief of Staff have spoken to Ms. Kris Aquino, either through personal conversation or through mobile phone on the reported bid of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan for the Senate Presidency," Zubiri said.

"I don't know where these stories are coming from. I have talked with my Chief of Staff to check whether he has received phone calls from Kris but there was none. I hope I'm making myself clear, because if indeed there is, I will not hide it," he added.

The senator, however, acknowledged that he has received fillers from both the camp of Sen. Manuel Villar Jr. and the Liberal Party, soliciting his support for the impending reorganization of the Senate leadership, particularly the Senate Presidency.

Zubiri also said that while he has earlier admitted that both camps are doing their best to sway the membership of incoming and existing members of the Senate to join their camps, at least on his end, he has no personal encounter with any member of the Aquino family who is reportedly campaigning for a candidate for Senate Presidency.
