ANGARA LAYS DOWN LEGISLATIVE AGENDA FOR THE 15TH CONGRESS

As Congress opens today, Senator Edgardo J. Angara enumerated his legislative priorities that include bills on banking and finance, education, science and technology, culture and the arts, health, infrastructure, and human capital development.

"The Senate should lead in pursuing strategic reforms in order to sustain the country's growth. There is a common sentiment among members of the Senate to pursue genuine, honest to goodness reform. We want to see a more systematic, more purposeful discussion of public policy - and not just garden-variety legislation but laws of real national significance," he said.

Among Angara's priority bills include:

  • Revision of the Bangko Sentral Charter [S.B. No. 54]

  • Collective Investment Schemes Law (Cisl) [S.B. No. 49]

  • Insurance Code Modernization [S.B. No. 53]

  •  Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) [S.B. No. 50]

  • Strengthening The Political Party System [S.B. No. 51]

  • Cybercrime Law [S.B. No. 52]

  • Children's Health Insurance Program (Chip) [S.B. No. 55]

  • School Modernization And Innovation Act [S.B. No. 57]

  • Creating The Philippine Sports University [S.B. No. 48]

"As Congress reopens for the next three-year regular session, it is imperative for the incoming Senate leadership to adopt a clear agenda for reform. We must give priority to policy reforms that can direct the country's growth," said Angara.
