ON THE PRESIDENT'S APOLOGY OVER THE HOSTAGE INCIDENT

President Noynoy Aquino's assuming responsibility over the botched hostage drama is not a proof of the weakness of his administration but a confirmation of being a responsible leader. His claim of accountability to the incident must be perceived positively by the public and the public officials

However, it is not the President but DILG Undersecretary Rico Puno who should really be held responsible because it is the latter who supervises the Philippine National Police operations as undersecretary for Peace and Order.

Undersecretary Puno had already admitted that he is not trained to handle hostage crisis. It would be better if the PNP operations be entrusted to DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo who undoubtedly has the capability to fulfill the said function.
