Pia: Don't link P-Noy's stand on contraceptives to US grant

Senator Pia Cayetano today urged various sectors to keep an open mind about President Benigno Aquino's statement favoring government's promotion of contraceptives.

At the same time, the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography urged critics to refrain from linking the President's stand to the $434 million grant recently awarded by the United States Millennium Challenge Corp.

"It would be unfair to link P-Noy's stand to the Millennium Challenge grant because with or without it, family planning is an issue that is long overdue, and should be discussed in the open."

"Reproductive health concerns cannot be ignored. It is high time that the Department of Health (DOH) pursues a policy that will allow all families, especially poor couples, to be educated about and have access to the family planning methods most appropriate to them," added the senator, who is also a staunch advocate of women's rights.
