Statement of Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. on the resignation of Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez

Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez did Congress, the country and, perhaps, herself a favor in personally submitting her resignation to the President this morning which was accepted as expected. As far as the Senate is concerned, this allows us more time for other pressing work that would have been used up by the trial. The President must now convince the people that his choice to replace her will be one whose impartiality, credibility, capability, and independence, are unquestionable and indubitable. After the intense and unceasing efforts made by the Palace in bringing her tenure to a premature end, anything less would boomerang on the administration. The ball is now in their hands.
