STATEMENT ON THE CONTROVERSIAL DAKDAKAN KULO EXHIBIT

I join the various Catholic groups and members of the clergy in condemning the controversial visual art exhibit at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. While we recognize art as a legitimate method of exercising freedom of expression, we must also uphold respect to one's spiritual conviction, and this include acceptance to the sacredness of religious images to its believers, whether or not we belong to that religion.

Inasahan natin na mareresolba ang isyu noong Huwebes, pero iba ang nangyari. Kung anuman ang motibo sa likod ng naganap na bandalismo, kinokondena din natin ito. Hindi pa rin ito katanggap-tanggap. Matigil man nito ang art exhibit, hindi pa rin matitigil ang sigalot.

May the open forum clear the air, not fan the flame. Masasabi nating nagimg mabuluhan ito kapag tuluyang naresolba ang isyu na may pagkakaunawaan ang bawat panig.
